This calls for a celebration!

Recently, just heard that a good friend of mine passed the US CPA board exam.

2nd placer in the Philippine CPA board exams, she's now in Tokyo working for an audit firm. Next year, she'll be transferring to New York for work & at the same time pursue her masteral degree. Not only is she good in audit, she's also a great writer. I love reading her blog (http://jenny-the-sleep-talker.blogspot.com/). Some articles written by her have also been published in the Philippine Daily Inquirer (a link to a sample of her written article -- http://opinion.inquirer.net/inquireropinion/columns/view_article.php?article_id=67623) . A really great achiever & all around person! But what I admire most about her is her ability to balance work & play. Despite being a very hardworker, she knows how to party hard too.

Congratulations Jenny! You deserve it! Really really proud & lucky to have such a wonderful friend like you!

Let's celebrate!!! Wootwoooot!!!

Everybody's Free

another holiday on monday, no work... wooohooooo!!! long weekend again:)

just wanted to share the lyrics of an old song, quite long but really nice. :)

(the lyrics include advices that we might not have thought of & are very difficult to follow, but true...)

Baz Luhrmann -- Everybody's Free (to wear sunscreen)
Ladies and Gentlemen of the class of '99
Wear sunscreen
If I could offer you only one tip for the future, sunscreen would be
it. The long term benefits of sunscreen have been proved by
scientists whereas the rest of my advice has no basis more reliable
than my own meandering
experience...I will dispense this advice now.
Enjoy the power and beauty of your youth; oh nevermind; you will not
understand the power and beauty of your youth until they have faded.
But trust me, in 20 years you'll look back at photos of yourself and
recall in a way you can't grasp now how much possibility lay before
you and how fabulous you really looked...You're not as fat as you
imagine.
Don't worry about the future; or worry, but know that worrying is as
effective as trying to solve an algebra equation by chewing
bubblegum. The real troubles in your life are apt to be things that
never crossed your worried mind; the kind that blindside you at 4pm
on some idle Tuesday.
Do one thing everyday that scares you
Sing
Don't be reckless with other people's hearts, don't put up with
people who are reckless with yours.
Floss
Don't waste your time on jealousy; sometimes you're ahead, sometimes
you're behind...the race is long, and in the end, it's only with
yourself.
Remember the compliments you receive, forget the insults; if you
succeed in doing this, tell me how.
Keep your old love letters, throw away your old bank statements.
Stretch
Don't feel guilty if you don't know what you want to do with your
life...the most interesting people I know didn't know at 22 what they
wanted to do with their lives, some of the most interesting 40 year
olds I know still don't.
Get plenty of calcium.
Be kind to your knees, you'll miss them whey they're gone.
Maybe you'll marry, maybe you won't, maybe you'll have children, maybe
you won't, maybe you'll divorce at 40, maybe you'll dance the funky
chicken on your 75th wedding anniversary...what ever you do, don't
congratulate yourself too much or berate yourself either---your
choices are half chance, so are everybody else's. Enjoy your body,
use if every way you can...don't be afraid of it, or what other people
think of it, it's the greatest instrument you'll ever
own...
Dance...even if you have nowhere to do it but in your own living room.
Read the directions, even if you don't follow them.
Do NOT read beauty magazines, they will only make you feel ugly.
(Brother and sister together we'll make it through
Someday your spirit will take you and guide you there
I know you've been hurting, and I know I've been waiting to be there
for you. And I'll be there, just let me know, whenever I can.
Everybody's free.)
Get to know your parents, you never know when they'll be gone for
good.
Be nice to your sibilings; they are the best link to your past and the
people most likely to stick with you in the future.
Understand that friends come and go, but for the precious few you
should hold on. Work hard to bridge the gaps in geography and
lifestyle because the older you get, the more you need the people you
knew when you were young.
Live in New York City once, but leave before it makes you hard; live
in Northern California once, but leave before it makes you soft.
Travel
Accept certain inalienable truths, prices will rise, politicians will
philander, you too will get old, and when you do you'll fantasize
that when you were young prices were reasonable, politicians were
noble and children respected their elders.
Respect your elders.
Don't expect anyone else to support you. Maybe you have a trust fund,
maybe you have a wealthy spouse; but you never know when either one
might run out.
Don't mess too much with your hair, or by the time you're 40, it will
look 85.
Be careful whose advice you buy, but, be patient with those who
supply it. Advice is a form of nostalgia, dispensing it is a way of
fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the
ugly parts and recycling it for more than
it's worth.
But trust me on the sunscreen...
(Brother and sister together we'll make it through
Someday your spirit will take you and guide you there
I know you've been hurting, and I know I've been waiting to be there
for you. And I'll be there, just tell me now, whenever I can.
Everybody's free.)

96% vs. 4%

In a survey taken asking if people wanted to know the exact moment they were to die, 96% said no & only 4% wanted to. (Bucketlist)

In the movie, Carter (Morgan Freeman) always thought he belonged to the minority who would want to know when they were going to die until he actually got the news of his prognosis. At most, 1 year to live.

If I were asked the same question, I think I belong to the minority. For me, it might be scary, but at least knowing how much time you have left, you'll be able to make the most out of it. To do what you want to do... say what you want to say... experience things you have never tried before... be with people that matters most to you...

Are you part of the 96% or the 4%?

Life is short

A little more than a week to go & January 2008 will be gone...11 months before the year ends again.

Reading about the death of Heath Ledger really shocked me. Very young at the age of 28. A few days back, at age 25, Brad Renfro also passed away. So sad...

It made me realize how short life can be.

Let's learn to make the most out of each day we have. Try to be contented. Appreciate small things in life. Appreciate people & don't be afraid to tell them & show them that you do. Take risks. Try new things. Explore new places. Enjoy. See good in people. Spend time with those important to you. Do things that makes you happy. Love yourself. Be kind to yourself.

Be thankful for each brand new day you have to do these things. Don't take life for granted. Life is too short.

Driving

i love driving.

some people would rather be passengers. they feel too lazy to drive specially long distances. i admit there are days when i'm out with someone driving for me. those rare times are when i feel lazy or exhausted, or i haven't had enough sleep (or just a chance for me to drink as much as i want. hehehe). :P but i realized i like driving on my own more. whether going to somewhere near or somewhere far. yeah, sometimes it feels tiring specially with all the traffic during rush hours, but driving makes me feel independent. i feel i'm in control & weird as it may seem...i love the risk. i love the challenge of "pakikipag gitgitan" & estimating if my car would fit a certain space. i love the challenge of trying to see whether i would make it on time or not. i love stepping on the gas & the sudden breaks, feeling the adrenaline rush passing through my body. yeah, i do curse the bad drivers but most of the time i feel happy when i'm driving.

parking...errr...it's okay, but looking for a space to park is a different story.;)

Late New Year Post

Happy 2008!!!

Unfortunately, for some reason, I couldn't access my old blog so I had to create a new one.:) A new year, a new blog.

Found a link that tells the hidden meaning of a name. I tried mine & here it goes:

***What Janylaine Sing Means***
You are fair, honest, and logical. You are a natural leader, and people respect you.You never give up, and you will succeed... even if it takes you a hundred tries. You are rational enough to see every part of a problem. You are great at giving other people advice.
You are usually the best at everything ... you strive for perfection. You are confident, authoritative, and aggressive. You have the classic "Type A" personality.
You are very intuitive and wise. You understand the world better than most people. You also have a very active imagination. You often get carried away with your thoughts. You are prone to a little paranoia and jealousy. You sometimes go overboard in interpreting signals.
You are a free spirit, and you resent anyone who tries to fence you in.You are unpredictable, adventurous, and always a little surprising. You may miss out by not settling down, but you're too busy having fun to care.
You are relaxed, chill, and very likely to go with the flow. You are light hearted and accepting. You don't get worked up easily.Well adjusted and incredibly happy, many people wonder what your secret to life is.

You tend to be pretty tightly wound. It's easy to get you excited... which can be a good or bad thing. You have a lot of enthusiasm, but it fades rather quickly. You don't stick with any one thing for very long. You have the drive to accomplish a lot in a short amount of time. Your biggest problem is making sure you finish the projects you start.

You are friendly, charming, and warm. You get along with almost everyone. You work hard not to rock the boat. Your easy going attitude brings people together. At times, you can be a little flaky and irresponsible. But for the important things, you pull it together.
You are the total package - suave, sexy, smart, and strong. You have the whole world under your spell, and you can influence almost everyone you know. You don't always resist your urges to crush the weak. Just remember, they don't have as much going for them as you do.

You are deeply philosophical and thoughtful. You tend to analyze every aspect of your life. You are intuitive, brilliant, and quite introverted. You value your time alone.Often times, you are grumpy with other people. You don't appreciate them trying to interfere in your affairs.
