everytime i travel to a different country, people are surprised to hear that i'm from the philippines & that i'm a filipino citizen. with my fair skin & chinky eyes, most of the time i've been mistaken for a singaporean & spoken to in mandarin. when i go to hongkong or somewhere that belongs to the chinese territory, i can easily blend in.
foreigners who have not been to the philippines or are not very knowledgeable about the country still think that filipinos are brown, short & have flat noses. with our economy going weaker & with more filipinos going abroad to work (most of the time as domestic helpers or entertainers), it's sad that these foreigners look down at us. in spite of this, i've never been ashamed to raise my filipino passport & say i'm a filipino.
after this article coming out in cnn, would i still feel the same way?
